Real Steel Trailer

Written by: Stoic Taco

I pretty much ignored all the Real Steel talk lately. Yes I simply tuned out. It seems that all I heard was Real Steel this and Real Steel that…and yes I even heard something about a sequel…I am not exactly what it was that turned me off but I just wasn’t interested…

That is, until about 15 minutes ago when I decided to check out the much publicised trailer.

Oh My God, it looks freaking incredible!

It has fighting robots! Not like Transformers, but like the old Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots controlled by the user!

Directed by Shawn Levy (Date Night) and starring Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman and Lost’s Evangeline Lilly, it tells the story of a washed up boxing boxer and now promoter Charlie Kenton (Jackman) who thinks he has found a new champion in a discarded robot, and during his rise to the top, Charlie has to reconnect with his 11yr old son he didn’t know existed who wants to get to know his father.

Based on the trailer it looks like it has something for everyone, a story of the underdog succeeding, awesome special effects, the importance of family, following your dreams, not letting anything get in your way, and awesome fighting robots!!!

I am definitely sold! I will be there front row and centre!

Darren Aronofsky Walks Away From Wolverine

Greetings all,

It appears that director Darren Aronofsky has walked away from The Wolverine citing the shoot time as primary reason.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Mr Aronofsky realised that the film shoot would take him away from his family for almost a year and he was uncomfortable with that and has since left the project.

“As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year,” Aronofsky said in a joint statement with Fox. “I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again,” he continued.

I think that this has to be a huge blow to the project given that Darren Aronofsky is a terrific film-maker and would have brought a new chapter to the ailing Wolverine franchise. As we had previously stated, Mr Aronofsky was a fan of bringing a bigger Wolverine to the screen as to look less like Clint Eastwood and more like the comic book character that we all know and love.

So the next big questions is who’s willing and available to take this challenge on?

We all know Zack Snyder is busy….

‘The Wolverine’ – “Gets Bigger”

Greetings all,

I am a fan of Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine.

I don’t think that you can find a better actor to portray the rage, the depth of emotion, and sheer physicality of the Canadian mutant known as Logan.

The one thing that I have always struggled with his Mr Jackman’s height, he’s 6ft 2in, and Wolverine is supposed to be about 5ft 3in. That’s a pretty big difference.

Personally I’ve been able to overlook this variation away from the comic books simply because his performance has been so damn good. Although I am really basing this on ‘X-Men’ and ‘X2’ because the less said about ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ the better…

Now comes hope for a more accurate depiction of the “ol’ canucklehead” in the form of Darren Aronofsky, director of the forthcoming Wolverine film, ‘The Wolverine’.

The SuperHeroHype website reports that Mr Jackman stated during an interview that the director Darren Aronofsky has told him to get bigger and stockier for the role, in order to look more like the Wolverine from the comic books.

Let’s hope that this new film reaches the standard set in ‘X2’ and not the cringe worthy ‘X-men Origins’…

Til there’s more news,
