Michael Shannon IS General Zod!

It’s official!

Henry Cavill will be facing off against Michael Shannon in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel!

Mr Shannon, best known for his Oscar nominated role in Revolutionary Road and most recently as his turn as Agent Nelson Van Alden in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, will take on the villainous role of General Zod!

Director Zack Snyder had this to say about the casting decision;

“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role”

This is great casting and I think that Mr Shannon will play a great General Zod and it’s also a relief to hear that this Superman reboot will have an actual villain other than Lex Luthor.

I remember seeing Superman II for the very first time years and years ago and being absolutely enthralled by the battle scene between Superman and General Zod, Ursa, and Non! It was a full on battle taking place in the middle of Metropolis and it blew my mind. Watching it again recently I did still enjoy it but the scene looked a little dated when compared to battle scenes today.

So the casting of General Zod makes me very happy because I now know that I can expect to see a battle to end all battles, especially with Zack Snyder at the helm.

Now the only question left that is on everyone’s lips…will Michael Shannon get to utter the infamous words…

“KNEEL BEFORE ZOD”

Amy Adams is Lois Lane

Greetings all,

It’s official! Amy Adams is Lois Lane!

Amy Adams has been cast as Lois Lane in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel. Ms Adams will be joining Henry Cavill, Kevin Costner, and Diane Lane in the new reboot scheduled to be released next year.

It’s been a stellar year for Ms Adams who joins the cast hot off her Oscar nominated performance as Charlene Fleming in The Fighter. Ms Adams has the unique ability to embody all of her characters and only seems to go from strength to strength.

I first noticed Amy Adams in Catch Me If You Can as Brenda Strong, the innocent and naive nurse who falls for the charms of con man Frank Abagnale Jr (Leonardo DiCaprio). I thought she was just brilliant and made me believe her character in every scene that she’s in. Now cut forward to The Fighter…could the roles be any different?

I have nothing but high hopes for Ms Adams portrayal of Lois Lane, I know it’s going to be a great one!

‘Man of Steel’ – Kevin Costner Joins Cast

Greetings all,

Today it was announced that Kevin Costner has joined the Superman: Man of Steel cast in the role of Jonathan Kent, Superman’s adoptive father.

Kevin Costner

Mr Costner joins Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent) in Zack Snyder’s epic which is scheduled for release December 2012.

A Warner Bros press release states;

“Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time.”

It’s not the first time that Mr Costner will be playing a rural American with “quiet strength”, do you think he will channel Ray Kinsella? What about a scene where Jonathon whispers to Clark, “if you help them, thanks will come”

I have to say that Kevin Costner is not the first person that I think of when I hear the name Jonathon Kent, however Mr Costner has surprised me before. Fields of Dreams is am amazing film and one that I think gets better with age, I honestly believe that it is Mr Costner’s performance that keeps the audience believing. Yes I know that there were many other factors involved in making it a great film but I would rank the performance right up there too!

Director Zack Snyder has shared his thoughts on whether he should pay tribute to the previous Superman films, and the answer was “Respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies.”

So this basically says that while some concepts may be familiar the film will play by its own rules. Something that we have seen in the casting of Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent.

We have nothing but faith in you and your decisions Mr Snyder, we trust you to make a brilliant Superman film.

I would say “introducing” but Carla Gugino needs no introduction…

As you said before Ms Gugino, “every day the future looks a little bit darker” let’s just hope that it’s dark mixed with a whole lot of fantasy and kick ass action…Sucker Punch

Sucker Punch – April 11 2011

Greetings all,

“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything”

Wiser words have never been spoken…and it’s with that thought that leads us to Sucker Punch.

The new film from director Zack Snyder (the genius behind 300, Watchmen, and the currently in pre-production Superman: Man of Steel) explores the alternate fantasy world of a young institutionalised girl as she plans her escape…and it looks FREAKING AMAZING!

Check this out!

Starring Emily Browning (The Uninvited) as Baby Doll, who has been placed in an asylum by her wicked stepfather. Baby Doll retreats into a fantasy world with 4 other imprisoned girls who then must go on a mission to retrieve 5 items which will then allow them to escape their incarceration.

Looking like a combination of Charlie’s Angels, Sin City, Kill Bill, and Return to Oz, it looks like it’s going to be a thrill a minute while blurring the lines of reality and fantasy and I for one can’t wait!

Mr Snyder with his trademark style has created a world where anything can happen, and judging by the trailer it looks like it does, and given what the film offers, I think there is absolutely something for everyone.

If you haven’t seen the one sheet posters for the film, hold your breath because I will be posting them shortly….be prepared to have your breath taken from you….
