Paul Thomas Anderson (PTA), the genius behind Magnolia and There Will Be Blood, is all set for his new film The Master.
Philip Seymour Hoffman stars in the lead role as Lancaster Dodd, a World War II veteran who returns home disillusioned with everything he’s seen whilst serving in the war. In an effort to find himself, Dodd builds a belief system that catches on during the 1950’s. Joaquin Phoenix co-stars as Freddie Sutton, an alcoholic drifter who becomes Dodd’s right hand man.
The film has already generated a lot of buzz with its subject matter as it has been said to be influenced by a current popular celebrity religion and has since undergone some script changes.
PTA has delivered some of the most intense, gripping, and emotionally draining films that I have ever seen, as mentioned above, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood, I can only imagine what his take on a religious drama will be like. The one thing that I am not concerned with is if it will be any good. I think he previous work speaks for itself.
The latest casting news is that Amy Adams has just joined the cast. That’s right, Ms Adams will film her role in The Master before taking on the role in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Ms Adams will be playing of role of Lancaster Dodd’s wife, name unknown at the moment. Also confirmed as joining the cast are Jesse Plemons, David Warshofsky, Laura Dern, and Lena Endre.
The Weinstein Co has purchased the distribution rights for the film, as reported by Deadline. This is yet another significant purchase by the Weinstein Co as they have recently acquired the rights for The Wettest County in the World. Both of these films have award winners all over them!
