Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘The Master’

Written by: Stoic Taco

Paul Thomas Anderson (PTA), the genius behind Magnolia and There Will Be Blood, is all set for his new film The Master.

Philip Seymour Hoffman stars in the lead role as Lancaster Dodd, a World War II veteran who returns home disillusioned with everything he’s seen whilst serving in the war. In an effort to find himself, Dodd builds a belief system that catches on during the 1950’s. Joaquin Phoenix co-stars as Freddie Sutton, an alcoholic drifter who becomes Dodd’s right hand man.

The film has already generated a lot of buzz with its subject matter as it has been said to be influenced by a  current popular celebrity religion and has since undergone some script changes.

PTA has delivered some of the most intense, gripping, and emotionally draining films that I have ever seen, as mentioned above, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood, I can only imagine what his take on a religious drama will be like. The one thing that I am not concerned with is if it will be any good. I think he previous work speaks for itself.

The latest casting news is that Amy Adams has just joined the cast. That’s right, Ms Adams will film her role in The Master before taking on the role in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Ms Adams will be playing of role of Lancaster Dodd’s wife, name unknown at the moment. Also confirmed as joining the cast are Jesse Plemons, David Warshofsky, Laura Dern, and Lena Endre.

The Weinstein Co has purchased the distribution rights for the film, as reported by Deadline. This is yet another significant purchase by the Weinstein Co as they have recently acquired the rights for The Wettest County in the World. Both of these films have award winners all over them!

Here’s a teaser poster image posted by @IMDbLive showing the as-yet-titled Paul Thomas Anderson Project.

Weinstein Co. presented their upcoming films; it appears to be a pretty impressive offering, harking back to the old Miramax days.

The Master looks like it could be something special and with Paul Thomas Anderson back behind the camera after 5 years, you know that he’s going to deliver something amazing.

The Master is scheduled for release in 2013.

Are You Green With Envy?

Written by: Stoic Taco

On May 20th 2011, a video was uploaded to YouTube by the official GreenWithEnvyMovie channel.

That video was the first trailer for the new film starring Jason Segal, Amy Adams, and Chris Cooper. Love struck meets star struck when a small town couple head to Hollywood and discover their dreams of hitting the big time may cost them the one thing that matters most — each other.

Not exactly the most interesting or original story in the world right?

It gets better. Oh boy, does it get better. Watch it now and keep an eye open at the 51 second mark.

See, I told you.

What an absolutely awesome way to announce the arrival of one of the most anticipated films this year. A film that is sure to have everyone’s inner kid running wild!

I know mine is! Every time I watch that trailer it makes me feel a kid again!

In this Digital Age where Twitter and Facebook make it really hard to keep anything under wraps, Disney Pictures managed to surprise everyone with the #Greenwithenvy campaign. Everyone knew that the Muppets trailer was showing with the new Pirates movie but it was nowhere to be found online. This was really strange given that it’s normally where most of us will look for a new trailer. Still nowhere to be found.

I think it was Slash Film that made the announcement first via Twitter that The Muppets teaser trailer was up and when I clicked on the link I found a film called Green with Envy. I tolerated the somewhat clichéd beginning of the trailer, strangely starring the main cast of The Muppets film and it still didn’t click what I was watching…that was until the 51 second mark when my brain exploded and I was left sitting there with the goofiest grin I’ve had in quite a while.

Subscribe to the GreenwithEnvy YouTube Channel, show your support of a great marketing campaign, and watch then re-watch the trailer…currently 869, 988 views in 4 days.

Not bad huh?

The Muppets Movie Poster

Written by: Stoic Taco

As Empire Online announced earlier tonight, The Muppets one sheet movie poster has been released!

There is definitely something a little odd about seeing the Muppet’s legs…it’s just as disconcerting as seeing Tom Selleck without his moustache…you knew it had to exist but it doesn’t make it any easier looking at it.

Being a lifelong Muppets fan I am all kinds of excited about seeing this new film from director James Bobin (The Flight of the Conchords) and written by Jason Segal (How I Met Your Mother) and Nicholas Stoller (Get Him To The Greek) scheduled for release in Australia 1st January 2012.

The new film, with all of our favourite Muppets (my personal favourite being Fozzie Bear), is the story of them coming back together to save their beloved Muppet Theatre from being taken over by a greedy oil tycoon, played by Chris Cooper.

The cameo cast list is a veritable who’s who of Hollywood, for a full list check out IMDb. However if you prefer to be surprised, then just wait for the release…which isn’t too far away…

Excited yet?

Michael Shannon IS General Zod!

It’s official!

Henry Cavill will be facing off against Michael Shannon in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel!

Mr Shannon, best known for his Oscar nominated role in Revolutionary Road and most recently as his turn as Agent Nelson Van Alden in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, will take on the villainous role of General Zod!

Director Zack Snyder had this to say about the casting decision;

“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role”

This is great casting and I think that Mr Shannon will play a great General Zod and it’s also a relief to hear that this Superman reboot will have an actual villain other than Lex Luthor.

I remember seeing Superman II for the very first time years and years ago and being absolutely enthralled by the battle scene between Superman and General Zod, Ursa, and Non! It was a full on battle taking place in the middle of Metropolis and it blew my mind. Watching it again recently I did still enjoy it but the scene looked a little dated when compared to battle scenes today.

So the casting of General Zod makes me very happy because I now know that I can expect to see a battle to end all battles, especially with Zack Snyder at the helm.

Now the only question left that is on everyone’s lips…will Michael Shannon get to utter the infamous words…

“KNEEL BEFORE ZOD”
